The Olympic countdown is well and truly underway but how many resellers are going for gold this Summer?

The comms industry has a crucial role to play in keepingLondonand other host venues moving forward – from inspiring more flexible ways of working to ensuring data and mobile networks don’t go into meltdown.

The channel has a golden opportunity to rise to the challenge as the ‘greatest show on earth’ comes to our shores with millions of extra journeys made and tens of thousands of visitors, competitors and media converging for this Summer’s sporting spectacular.

Certainly there’s been lots of Government advice about companies embracing more flexible working patterns with staff encouraged to work from home during the games.  Video conferencing and more general Unified Comms solutions represent an ‘ideal fit’ whilst extra strain on network capacity should open-up even more client conversations about resilience, business continuity and risk assessment. Now is the time to act before the starting pistol sounds.

No event of this size is without a certain amount of controversy. Ticket sales have run into trouble and dedicated Olympic traffic lanes have not been without criticism, prompting fears of gridlock for ordinary commuters. There’s no doubt the Olympics and Paralympics represent an unprecedented challenge on so many different levels – from security and logistics to network infrastructure.

It’s going to be an interesting few months not just forLondonbut other key towns and cities around the country. Let’s hope we put on a show to be proud of. For many of us it will be a once in a lifetime experience. The whole world will be watching – not just on TV but online and on millions of mobile devices. It’s going to be the most media centric games ever.
