Forward Thinking

Christmas is a time for reflection as well as celebration, as the curtain comes down on another eventful 12 months in the channel. With the global financial crisis showing no sign of easing, how many of you will be glad to see the back of 2011?

The key question for many business owners is where do you see your company in 12 months time?  For me one of the best ways forward is for dealers to maximise their ability to identify key areas of emerging opportunities.

Choice has never been an issue for the communication industry. The challenge for resellers has always been when to join the party – be it hosted, unified comms or the Cloud. Timing and picking the right partner are crucial but it’s not an easy mandate.

Bravery, foresight and often a gut instinct play a part – but stand still for too long and there’s a real danger you’ll get left behind in an increasingly IP centric landscape.

Conferencing is proving a good way for our customers to add additional sales, as in a perverse way, the bleaker the economic outlook, the easier it becomes to sell. High fuel costs and a desire for businesses to cut back on overheads make audio and video conferencing an ideal and effective solution – generating quick returns on investment. There’s even a dedicated audio conferencing unit for the mobile market that offers complete freedom and flexibility, whilst we’ve been working hard to offer resellers a more cost effective entry into the world of VC. A repeat of last year’s harsh winter will also see demand rocket.

I’m sure everyone is hoping for bigger and better things in 2012 as a New Year traditionally generates an initial burst of fresh impetus and optimism. There’s no doubt that continued advances in technology will create many opportunities for business growth; how quickly it’s adapted and embraced will ultimately shape the future.
