Put Your Head In The Cloud

In its simplest form The Cloud is just another form of connection, according to distributor Nimans. “Whether a phone system is connected to an off-site location or via traditional ISDN, it’s still a connection. The Cloud is the latest modern way of connectivity,” says Head of System Sales, Paul Burn.
“Are we involved in The Cloud? Absolutely, just like we have been involved in lots of connectivity over many decades. We’re involved in The Cloud in several different ways, such as through a hosted call management and contact centre reporting service from ‘software as a service’ specialist, Akixi. We’re also involved with hosted services through our dedicated Network Services team, working with hosted communications and SaaS specialist SIPCOM for example.”
Paul continued: “There are various technologies that come under this general banner. The Cloud is just another way of saying how do we connect?
“The Cloud today is predominantly based on hosted services and we’re working closely with dealers to assess their exact requirements as the whole situation continues to evolve.
“I think there are many resellers who are taking a watching brief, adopting ‘a suck it and see’ approach. At the end of the day is it the role of a distributor to be a leader or a mass market provider? Here at Nimans we have many leading products, but the focus, like many major distributors tends to be on volume, unless you are a niche player.”
Providing resellers with the knowledge and confidence to embrace cloud-based opportunities is crucial if they are to maximise revenue, Paul believes. Nimans is offering a free six month trial of a hosted call management and contact centre reporting service - part of an exclusive distribution agreement with Akixi.
“Compatible with Siemens and Panasonic systems, the technology is based on a pay-as-you-go basis without the requirement for additional PC’s or software. It can be easily set-up within 24 hours and remotely configured.”
Paul says resellers can now take advantage of the ‘risk free’ in-house trial, worth over £1,000 to gain a greater understanding and kick-start sales - as part of a monthly rental programme that provides them with a ‘sticky’ recurring revenue stream.
He concluded: “The Cloud represents many opportunities for resellers. We recognise this and are perfectly placed to help them move forward, at their own pace – with the expertise and support of key trading partners. For example we also offer resellers the opportunity to experience a free 30 day trial of Microsoft Lync, as an ideal way to test the UC water.”
