Christmas TV was the usual mix of the good, the bad and the ugly…. but it got me thinking about the lessons we can all learn throughout 2014.
We all love nostalgia and the classic films and comedy scenes fondly remembered from our childhood. Many shows and blockbusters are dusted down and shown again over the festive period. In many ways Christmas wouldn’t be the same without them.
But in the ever evolving world of communications it can be a dangerous game staying in your comfort zone and repeating the same thing over and over again.
Embracing new technologies and moving into different areas of the market is a bit like playing chess. Make the wrong move and it can be a costly mistake. But wait too long and your opponents have stolen a march. Timing is crucial.
It’s a philosophy we completely understand at Nimans. We recently launched our new trade catalogue, a printed document that even in today’s digital and online age remains as popular as ever. Often the old ways are the best but it’s also important to move with the times. Striking the right balance is the best solution.
Hosted, video conferencing and network connectivity are all areas of the market on the radar of many of our customers. The popularity of our training programmes bear testimony to how resellers are grasping the nettle and expanding their revenue opportunities. Not too many are watching from the sidelines anymore.
So what will 2014 hold for the industry? For me last year represented a small step forward and I expect the next 12 months will see the forward momentum continue.
The Christmas movies may be over for another year but the lessons we have learned from the past can help shape the future.
