Students Learn About Comms World

Students have been given a taste of the world of work as Salford-based comms specialist Nimans threw open its doors to inspire new career paths.
Six students and two teachers from Bury College were given a guided tour of Nimans’ Salford headquarters and spent time in various departments gaining an insight into how the tech distributor operates.
The students, aged 19-24, learned about all aspects of the business including sales divisions, warehouse, marketing, purchasing and IT - and the different roles involved. They spent time with staff who explained their diverse duties – discovered how to take and transfer telephone calls – and also had some of their names broadcast over the internal intercom system. The visitors were provided with lunch and each left with a goodie bag that included free walkie talkies and a polo shirt.
Event organiser Sue Goldfine from Nimans said the day was a great success. “Many had never been in a work environment before and were very excited to be visiting us. It was a very rewarding experience.”
College spokeswoman Janet Tye explained: “This was one of the best visits we have ever had – the staff at Nimans gave our students a fantastic day and they had great fun whilst learning about work.”
