A Resilient Gateway Built for Secure Connectivity
TP-Link’s newly released Omada DR3220v-4G router is redefining reliability and security for small businesses and remote workers in need of dependable Internet access.
Connectivity Resilience & Failover
This device supports a multi-standard DSL connection, along with Ethernet WAN and 4G/3G backup via either built-in 4G+ Cat6 or USB dongles. It enables seamless failover when primary links falter. It also features load balancing across DSL, 4G, and Ethernet WAN to optimise bandwidth use and reduce downtime.
Robust VPN Capabilities
Security-conscious environments will appreciate the DR3220v-4G’s comprehensive VPN suite. The device natively supports IPSec (up to 100 tunnels, with LAN-to-LAN and Client-to-LAN), PPTP, L2TP (each supporting 50 tunnels, plus 10 client connections), OpenVPN (55 tunnels, including 5 client connections), WireGuard, SSL VPN, and even GRE in standalone mode. These VPN mechanisms ensure encrypted, private connections whether you are enabling remote home offices or secure inter-site networking.

VoIP Capabilities
Alongside networking features, the DR3220v-4G includes VoIP telephony support. Users can configure phone services via the included Omada Controller or web UI under Settings > VoIP, using credentials from their telephony provider. This expands the gateway’s utility beyond data and into unified communications.
Secure Home Working & Management
TP-Link emphasises a secure foundation for home working. The gateway offers centralised cloud-based management via the Omada Controller, which supports both local and remote access through the Omada App or web portal. In terms of data integrity and firmware security, the recent 1.1.0 firmware (July 25, 2025) introduces SD-WAN, support for using domain names in OpenVPN and WireGuard, virtual WAN options, the ability to disable NAT, Google LDAP integration, LAN DNS, and additional TR-069 and logging enhancements. Importantly, it also brings wide-ranging security hardening: strong password enforcement, revamped software signing, disabled test services in factory mode, transparent logging of privacy asset changes, injection flaw fixes (including in WireGuard and DNS proxy), root SSH removal, integrity checks, and protections against TLS hijacking.
The Bottom Line
The TP-Link Omada DR3220v-4G is a versatile business-class gateway designed to deliver always-on connectivity, secure remote access, and unified communications in one device. With its built-in failover across DSL, Ethernet, and 4G, it ensures resilience against outages, while advanced VPN protocols and cloud-based management provide robust protection for home and hybrid workforces. Added VoIP capabilities make it a flexible choice for organisations seeking reliable connectivity and secure communication without compromise.
